Barcodes and QR codes give us a way to position a player without relying on GPS, which doesn’t work indoors. By scanning a code, we know that the player is standing within a few feet of a designated location. The problem is that the iPhone’s camera just isn’t made for getting nice sharp images as close range in low light situations and often they come out blurry, therefore unreadable.
This MIT technology looks to change all that, and giving the barcode scanner the ability to know what angle they are looking at the code to boot! This is another possible breakthrough in AR technology.
